The interior project for part of the residential spaces of a modern apartment in Sofia, Borovo district, surprised us with its different assignment. The theme was renovation and design of a children’s room to meet the needs of two teenagers and redesign of a nearby bathroom. The style preferences of the investors formed a framework of industrial interior style with dark colors. We approached the task individually in search of surprising moments in the design.

The northern exposure of the room created the perfect environment for beautiful light and shadow play, which inspired us to seek plasticity in the design with elongated vertical slats. We interrupted their rhythm unexpectedly with contrasting polygonal shelves and mirror strips in the wardrobes. For accent, we continued the polygons with mustard-colored outlines on the walls, giving the room a dynamic and memorable character. The wooden elements in the interior and yellow curtains brought additional warmth to the space, contrasting with the gray elements. Our functional proposal ensured autonomy for both teenagers (boy and girl) by creating two identical sleeping and working zones along the two adjacent walls of the room.
Our solution for the bathroom was also provocative. To diversify the standard space, we broke the ceiling at an unusual angle, designing it with hidden lighting that offers a more intimate atmosphere. We boldly angled the vanity cabinet in the same style, thus ensuring freer passage to the shower area. We transferred the angling of the cabinet in plan to the facade as well, to provide tangible spatiality to the element, which became a unique accent in the bathroom. Above it, we placed a large mirror that optically expands the space and reflects the playful niche above the toilet. The chosen combination of wood-textured tiles and exposed concrete decor with local accents of decorative tiles in black tones further contributed to the overall modern bathroom aesthetic.
